The Five Towns College Men were able to beat the heavily favored Villa Maria team by a score of 94-87.
Villa Maria came into the night winners of six of their last seven games and a number two ranking in the USCAA. Only Berkeley College had a better win-loss record than they did heading into the night.
That is until they played the John Mateyko lead Five Towns College Sound. The game was tied at the end of the first half. Kyree Sawyer lead the way in scoring for FTC with 14 points in the first frame. For Villa Maria Dominic Douglas had 18 points of his own. Most of his points came from the foul line as he was 8-for-10 from the line.
The second half is when Five Towns began to pull away. Alex Pena had 17 points in the second half alone. He was on fire from behind the arc hitting on three of six three-point opportunities.
FTC outrebounded Villa Maria (49-40), had a better free throw percentage (92.6%-72%) and had a better field goal percentage shooting 45.7%.
The Sound dominated in all phases of the game and were able to get by with an impressive 94-87 upset win. With one game remaining on the schedule the Men have a 12-6 record.
