Five Towns College Announces Christy Herring as Women's Volleyball Head Coach

Five Towns College Athletics has announced Christy Herring as the Women's Volleyball Head Coach.

Herring joins the Sound after most recently serving as the Head Varisty and Junior Varsity volleyball coach at Msgr. McClancy High School, where she has been coaching since 2014. She is also currently the head coach for the 18U/17U National Performance Juniors team. Herring's other coaching experience at the high school level includes time spent with Christ the King (Middle Village, NY) and the Nightingale-Bamford School (New York, NY).

"I am so excited and honored to be given the opportunity to build the women's volleyball program here at Five Towns College! Volleyball and coaching are truly my life's passions and being able to bring my knowledge and love for the game to a brand new program is priceless. I am thankful and greatful for this opportunity and look forward to sharing my love for the sport with the community here at Five Towns College." stated Herring upon her hiring.

Herring also brings Division I NCAA coaching experience to Five Towns College. She spent three seasons as the head coach at St. Francis College (2006-2009) in Brooklyn, NY, a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC). She inherited a program with one scholarship and only two returning student-athletes. In this position, she was responsible for coaching, recruiting, scheduling, and aiding in the academic development of student-athletes.

"Christy has an extensive coaching background and has shown the ability to recruit talented and high-character student-athletes. From talking with some of her former teammates and coaches, it was obvious that she is a great coach and cares about the well-roundedness of her student-athletes on the court, academically, and socially. It became evident that she is the best fit to lead our volleyball program.” stated Athletic Director Matt Guercio.

Herring earned her Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences/Concentration in Athletic Training from LIU Brooklyn.

For the 2018-19 academic year, Herring's primary responsibility will be recruiting athletes to build a team ready to compete in the Fall 2019 season.

All prospective athletes should email Coach Herring at and fill out the Prospective Student-Athlete Form.

What they're saying about Christy Herring…

"Excited for Christy to be coaching again in the college ranks! With her club/travel volleyball experience in relation to recruiting, she will have the Five Towns College volleyball program up and winning right from the get go! Volleyball has a bright future with Christy at the helm!" - Rich Borawski, SUNY Old Westbury, Softball Head Coach

“Christy is energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate about volleyball and has tremendous work ethic. She is very caring and always wants the best for her student-athletes.” - Herman Lim, Founder & Director Performance Juniors Volleyball Club

"Christy and I have known each other and have been great friends for over 20 years. First as competitors on opposing varsity high school volleyball teams, then side-by-side as D1 co-captains at Long Island University. As her assistant coach at Monseignor McClancy high school in Queens, NY,  I learned more about the sport of volleyball standing at her side than I ever did playing on the court. FTC has gained a passionate, knowledgeable, phenomenal woman to their family in the capacity of the head women's volleyball coach. I couldn't be more proud of my friend." - Tracee Cammarata, LIU Brooklyn Volleyball, Monsignor McClancy High School
