Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Match to Word of Life-Davis

Dix Hills, NY - The Five Towns College men's soccer team lost a non-conference contest to the Word of Life-Davis Huskies Tuesday evening by a score of 7-2. This would be the first time this season that the Sound has allowed more than two goals in a game. Five Towns outshot Word of Life-Davis 15-13, and the Huskies held the advantage in corner kicks 5-4.

The Huskies got on the scoreboard first in the 17th minute when Kevin Porras played a pass into the 18-yard box from Matias Garcia and finished lower left past the keeper. Bassm Ismail answered back for Five Towns two minutes later when he converted on a set-piece opportunity. A Word of Life-Davis handball placed the ball just outside the right side of the 18-yard box, which Ismail shot left-footed to the upper-right corner just inside the post.

William Rivera gave Five Towns a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute. Luis Mendez chipped the ball over the defensive line into the box, which Rivera one-touched off the bounce to shoot over the charging goalkeeper. The 2-1 lead would hold going into halftime.

The second half would only see goals scored by the visiting Huskies. Maurice Wagner tied the game in the 62nd minute, and then scored the would-be game winner in the 71st minute.

Vincent Rodriguez-Vega played the whole game in net for the Sound, finishing with two saves and seven goals allowed.

Five Towns returns to play Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 PM with the last regular season game against HVIAC opponent and #1 in the USCAA Coaches Poll, the Berkeley-NY Knights (10-5-1, 5-0 HVIAC). Watch live here.

The men's soccer team will not be competing in the HVIAC tournament and will await a USCAA tournament bid to extend the season. The bid selection show will be on Wednesday, October 30th (time TBD) and can be watched live at
