Dix Hills, NY - In the final game of the inaugural season, the women's soccer team finished on a high note and earned a scoreless draw against the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (2-10-1).
Through 70 minutes of back-and-forth possession, the Sound totaled five shots (2 SOG) compared to the Cannoneers eight (4 SOG). Pratt held a drastic 12-1 advantage in corner kicks, but the Five Towns defense was able to hold the team scoreless. Goalkeeper Natalie Bonsignore collected three saves in 48 minutes in the net, while Angelina Ioannou saved one shot through 22 minutes.
The Sound's best scoring opportunity came early on in the game when Carmella Davide hit the post in the 2nd minute. Davide then followed up with a rebound shot high over the net. Davide continued to put the pressure on Pratt, but was unable to come up with a clean opportunity. Davide finishes the season with two goals scored (King's 9/28 and Villa Maria 10/5).
Jennifer Xiong controlled the back line for the Sound and was able to catch the Cannoneers offsides 11 times. Xiong finishes the season as the team's leading scorer with three goals scored (Albany Pharm. 9/22 and Villa Maria 10/5 (2)). Xiong's goal scored against Albany Pharm. was the first goal scored in Five Towns College history, and earned her an HVIAC Honor Roll mention on September 24th. She was also an Honor Roll mention for her two goals scored in the 6-3 loss to Villa Maria.
