Dix Hills, NY - Freshman Jennifer Xiong put her name in the record books with the first goal scored for women's soccer in Five Towns College history. The Five Towns women's soccer team (0-2) dropped a conference match against HVIAC opponent Albany Pharmacy (1-3-2, 1-1 HVIAC) by a score of 11-1. Albany controlled the pace of play as they outshot Five Towns 48-3 and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Sound went into the game playing down two players, but held Albany scoreless until the 20th minute. Albany's Juliette Beatty opened up the scoring with her first goal of the season off an assist from Gabriella Evangelista. The Panthers would score twice more to go up 3-0 at the half.
Albany collected a few more goals to lead 8-0 before Jennifer Xiong scored her first goal of the season, and the first in history for the Sound, in the 69th minute of play. Natalie Bonsignore played all 90 minutes in goal for the Sound and collected 14 saves.
The women will look for the team's first win of the season in a home contest against HVIAC opponent King's (NY) on Saturday, September 28th at 12:00 PM. Follow the live action here.
