Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Versus Villa Maria, 6-3

Dix Hills, NY - In a game of back-and-forth possession, the Five Towns women's soccer team fell short to the Villa Maria Vikings by a score of 6-3.

Villa Maria's Megan Marafino was a gamechanger in this contest. She scored five unassisted goals for the Vikings, and assisted on the other. She scored early in the 6th minute, as she dribbled the ball from midfield into the box and finished lower-left past the goalkeeper.

Five Towns' Jennifer Xiong answered back in the 13th minute with an unassisted goal of her own to tie the score at 1-1. Xiong got tripped up just outside of the box, and took the set-piece shot over the four-man wall for the Sound's first goal of the game. Xiong put the pressure on the Villa Maria goalkeeper all game with seven shots on goal, and once hitting the post.

Another Vikings goal, by Izasia Smith, just before the half would give Villa Maria the lead for the remainder of the game. Marafino scored two quick goals in the second half to give the visitors a 4-1 lead. Carmella Davide scored her second goal of the season to cut down the lead in the 40th minute.

Marafino would scored her fourth goal, before Xiong scored her second of the game for Five Towns to make the score 5-3. Xiong split two defenders at the top of the 18-yard box and pushed the ball past the approaching goalkeeper. Marafino finished out the scoring with her fifth goal in the 68th minute to end the score at 6-3. Five Towns goalkeeper Juliette Kealy had three saves in 70 minutes in the net.

The women's soccer team will face Bryant & Stratton Albany in a home game next Saturday, October 12th at 3 PM.
