Matt Guercio was named Athletic Director at Five Towns College on September 26, 2018.
In less than one year at Five Towns College, Guercio has made a significant impact on the department. He added men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball, hired new coaches, and oversaw the upgrade of the new natural grass game and practice soccer fields. The additions of the new sports resulted in a 12% increase in student enrollment to the college.
Under Guercio's guidance, the department began an athletics rebranding, increased visibility to the social media platforms, expanded the amenities for the sports medicine division, provided infrastructure growth and strategic planning. Guercio’s vision is to continue elevating athletics and provide a first-class experience to its student-athletes, who exemplify the values of Five Towns College through both academic and athletic achievement.
In May, 2019, Five Towns College was accepted as a full-time member of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Prior to arriving at Five Towns College, Guercio served one year as the Director of Operations & Events Coordinator (2015-2016) at FLG Lacrosse, a travel organization that features showcases, training, events, and select teams. In this position, he oversaw payroll, budgeting, logistical planning, vendor management, review of contract agreements, team registrations, and travel accommodations.
Prior to this appointment, Guercio was the Assistant Director of Athletics for Operations (2013-2015) at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY, an NCAA Division II institution. He was responsible for the athletic game day operations, scheduling, facility supervision, purchasing, requisition/distribution of per diem meal allowances, team travel, and work-study supervision. Guercio assisted with the oversight of the Molloy College athletic venues, including Quealy Gymnasium and the Fitness Center. He served as a liaison with the Village of Rockville Centre (Rockville Centre Sports Complex) and Nassau County (Mitchel Athletic Complex) for the offsite athletic facilities.
Guercio began his intercollegiate athletics career at Long Island University (Formally LIU Post) in Brookville, NY, where he served as the Coordinator of Athletic Operations and Special Events (2006-2013). In his seven-plus years with the Pioneers, Guercio oversaw the game day operations of the school's NCAA Division II sports programs and served as tournament director for 19 NCAA championship events hosted by the university. He also developed and implemented the Athletic Operations Internship Program, and organized the Athletic Hall of Fame, Football Hall of Fame, and Student-Athlete Recognition Dinner. In February of 2011, he and his staff were instrumental in providing logistical support for the university’s first ever nationally televised live men’s basketball game on CBS College Sports.
In 2012, Guercio served as the General Manager for the Brooklyn Knights PDL of the United Soccer Leagues. His responsibilities included player signings and registration, team operations, travel arrangements, and post-game reporting to the USL league office.
Guercio has been a member of the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA) and Collegiate Athletic Operations Services (CAOS).
Guercio received his bachelor's degree in Sport Management from Dowling College.
Guercio and his wife, Mary Ellen, reside in Seaford, NY, with their two children, Nicholas and Caroline.
