Five Towns College Beats Touro In Home Opener

The Five Towns College Sound Men's Basketball team came away with a victory on opening night in Dix Hills. In the team's first game against Touro College, the Sound established a fast-paced and aggressive style of play, winning the game by a score of 77-66.

Coach Mateyko described his team's gameplay as "quick, " and FTC was exactly that last night. They jumped out to an early lead over Touro, and never took their foot off the gas pedal. After leading 34-24 at halftime, Five Towns gained its largest lead of the game, winning by 15 points wiht a score of 58-43 with 8:06 remaining in the second half. Touro never held the lead, but the opposing team closed the gap by going on a 13-6 run, only trailing by 8 points with 2:25 remaining in the game.

New players for the Five Town Sound made an immediate impact in the team's season opener. Freshman Kyree Sawyer made his presence felt early and often. The young player handled the pressure well in his first game at the collegiate level. Sawyer had 14 points with 3 offensive rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Returning Sophomore Alex Pena led the team with 21 points, 3 assists, and 6 steals.

The next game for FTC is on Saturday, October 28th at 2 PM against Cooper Union. Be sure to come out and support the team!
