Dix Hills, NY - Men's basketball Junior guard Kyree Sawyer was named a USCAA Division II Men's Basketball First Team All-American.
The All-American teams are voted on by coaches and administrators throughout the nation on players from 50 USCAA Division II teams; only 10 players are named as First Team All-Americans. Sawyer, this year's HVIAC Player of the Year, was previously named as Honorable Mention All-American for both his Freshman and Sophomore seasons; he is the first athlete at Five Towns College to be named as a First Team member.
Sawyer finished the season third in the nation in scoring with 23.1 points per game (49.1%); he totaled 439 points through 19 games and also averaged 7.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals. His season-high of 34 points came on 15-20 shooting in a 105-81 win over King's. Sawyer put himself in the Five Towns record book and scored his 1,000th career point on December 3rd against Webb Institute. He scored 15+ points in all 19 games this season, and has scored double-digit points in all but one game throughout his three seasons.
Sawyer currently stands at 1,223 career points and will add to that next year to finish off his historic career for the Five Towns Sound. See below for Sawyer's game log for the 2019-20 season.
