Five Towns College Battles to the Wire in Thrilling 98-94 Loss to Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo)
Dix Hills, NY – The Five Towns College Sound delivered a spirited performance on their home court, pushing the Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) Bobcats to the limit in a high-scoring, back-and-forth thriller on January 14. Despite their best efforts, the Sound fell just short, 98-94, in what will surely go down as one of the most exciting games of the season.
Sound Showcase Offensive Firepower
Five Towns College gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about, with multiple players stepping up to contribute in a well-rounded offensive display. Senior guard Eian Williams had a standout night, leading all scorers with 23 points while also dishing out a team-high 7 assists. Williams was relentless, driving to the basket and drawing fouls to convert 9-of-13 free throws.
Forward Ahmad McKnight provided a double-double effort with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, dominating on the glass to keep Five Towns competitive throughout the game. Tayron Bangs and Jon Espinal chipped in 16 points each, combining for four three-pointers and keeping the Bobcats' defense on its heels.
Reserve guard Patrick Harrington gave a critical boost off the bench, contributing 13 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and pulling down 6 rebounds in just 27 minutes.
A Game of Momentum Swings
The first half ended with the score tied at 37-37, as both teams traded baskets in a defensive struggle. The second half opened with an offensive explosion from both sides, with Bryant & Stratton relying on their sharpshooting from beyond the arc (57.1% from three) and Five Towns responding with aggressive drives to the rim.
The Sound's team effort on the boards (41 rebounds) and sharp shooting from three-point range (58.8%) kept the game tight down the stretch. However, a few crucial turnovers in the final minutes allowed the Bobcats to pull ahead. Despite a late scoring flurry led by Williams and Espinal, the Sound ran out of time to complete the comeback.
Bright Spots and Areas to Improve
Coach Drzal praised the team’s effort while noting areas for growth:
"We showed great heart tonight. Our ball movement was strong, and the scoring was well-distributed. But we need to cut down on turnovers and execute better in late-game situations. We'll learn from this and come back stronger."
The Sound committed 14 turnovers, which led to critical points for the Bobcats in transition. Despite this, the team’s offensive efficiency and ability to draw fouls (20-of-26 free throws) are encouraging signs moving forward.
What’s Next for the Sound?
The loss drops Five Towns College to 2-7 overall (0-1 in conference play), but their performance against a tough Bryant & Stratton squad (7-6, 2-1) suggests brighter days ahead. With players like Williams and McKnight leading the charge and Harrington proving to be a reliable option off the bench, the Sound have the tools to turn their season around.
The Sound will look to regroup and refocus as they prepare for their next game as they travel to conference rival Berkeley College on Thursday 1/16 at 8 PM, where they’ll aim to build on this strong showing and secure a much-needed win.
