Gregg Drzal is the Head Men’s Basketball Coach for Five Towns College (FTC), leading the college’s team Five Towns Sound since the 2018–2019 season. Gregg joined the Sound team in June 2016 as the Men's Basketball Assistant Coach. Before the 2018 season, Drzal was promoted to Head Coach after the departure of John Mateyko. Under his leadership, the men’s basketball program has continued to grow as part of the college’s relaunched athletics effort — which rebranded under “FTC Sound” beginning around 2018–2019. Drzal emphasizes work ethic, basketball IQ, and resilience — qualities he highlighted ahead of post-break games, urging players to bring energy and smart play onto the court. He appears committed not just to team performance, but also to the personal and academic growth of his players, reflecting the college’s philosophy that student-athletes are students first.

Coaching Background

  • Drzal joined the Sound athletics program in June 2016 as an assistant men’s basketball coach.
  • Prior to FTC, he served as an assistant coach at Dowling College Golden Lions during the 2015–2016 season.
  • Before his collegiate coaching career, Drzal spent roughly two decades coaching high school basketball in Suffolk County, New York — at schools such as Bayport-Blue Point, Connetquot, and St. John the Baptist. Additionally, he coached AAU basketball with programs like Team Underrated and The Silver Bullets.
