The Five Towns College Women’s Basketball Team delivered a commanding performance at FTC, defeating Fisher College (MA) 78-58. The Sound controlled the game from the opening tip, outpacing their opponents through balanced scoring, efficient free throw shooting, and superior rebounding, even as the opponent mounted a late push.
From the start, Five Towns set the tone with steady control and resilient play. The Sound built an early lead with 15 points in the first quarter, and despite Fisher’s modest 6-point effort during that period, the Sound’s offensive rhythm remained unbroken. Fisher gradually chipped away in the second and third quarters, scoring 10 and 16 points respectively, but the Sound responded with consistent outputs of 23 points in both the second and third quarters.
FTC’s ability to maintain focus was evident as they controlled the glass—securing 59 rebounds to Fisher’s 47—and capitalized on turnovers, converting 32 points off opponents’ mistakes compared to Fisher’s 17.
Key Performances Lighting Up the Scoreboard
- Danayjha Moore led the charge, scoring 24 points on an efficient 8-for-18 shooting clip, including 4 of her 11 attempts from beyond the arc, while knocking down 4 free throws. Her offensive prowess set the tone for the Sound’s attack.
- Layla Ford contributed 12 points and dished out 6 assists in 25 minutes, orchestrating the offense and making key plays on both ends of the court.
- Raine Mears added 9 points, while Ihari Oromo and Sydney Mountain provided steady support with 7 and 5 points, respectively.
The Sound’s bench was a major factor in the win, producing 21 points compared to Fisher (MA)’s paltry 5. Reserves like Des Bishop (7 points) and Danica Robles (6 points) stepped up when needed, ensuring the starters remained fresh and effective throughout the contest.
Furthermore, a significant difference came at the free throw line—Five Towns hit 10 of 14 attempts (71.4%), while Fisher managed just 8 of 15 (53.3%). Additionally, the Sound displayed their speed with 14 fast break points, outpacing the Owl’s 2, and demonstrated a balanced attack by scoring 38 points in the paint.
Fisher did attempt to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, registering 26 points compared to Five Towns’ 17. However, the Sound’s earlier efforts, especially during the second half when they built a 30-point lead and proved insurmountable.
“Every player contributed tonight, and our collective effort was the key to our victory,” said Coach Jaques. “Our free throw shooting, rebounding, and bench production really set us apart. Even though they made a late run, our consistency and execution on both ends of the floor ensured that we’d walk away with the win. Coach Jackson and I are proud of the team’s resilience and look forward to building on this performance.”
With this decisive victory, the Sound continues to build momentum as the NACIA Championships are just around the corner. The win not only highlights the team’s offensive efficiency and defensive discipline but also reinforces the depth of talent on the roster. As Five Towns College prepares for their next challenge, on the road, this coming Sunday, against a conference opponent in Bryant Stratton – Syracuse, the players are motivated to refine their game and maintain the high standards that the coaching staff expects.
