Sound Dominance on Sydney's Senior Night

The Five Towns College Women’s Basketball team showcased a masterclass in interior play and team effort as they secured an 87-65 victory over Bryant & Stratton–Albany at FTC. In addition, the team celebrated the career of beloved player Sydney Mountain during the after-game Senior Night Celebration.

After trading blows in the early stages of the contest—with the Sound outscoring Bryant & Stratton–Albany 21-15 in the first quarter and 17-16 in the second—Five Towns ignited in the third quarter, scoring an impressive 37 points. The Sound’s third-quarter explosion proved decisive in a game that highlighted their rebounding, inside scoring, and bench production. This surge propelled them to a commanding lead, one they maintained throughout the fourth quarter (12-22) to secure the win by a 22-point margin.

• Shooting & Scoring:
• • Five Towns shot 39-for-113 (34.5%) from the field compared to Bryant & Stratton–Albany’s 23-for-77 (29.9%).
  • From beyond the arc, the Sound struggled, converting just 7-of-35 (20.0%), while the opposition was slightly better at 9-of-31 (29.0%).
  • Despite modest free throw numbers (Five Towns hit 50.0% versus 58.8% for Bryant & Stratton–Albany), the Sound’s inside game made the difference, as they scored 58 points in the paint.
• Rebounding & Turnovers:
• • The Sound outrebounded their opponents 71-58 and forced a staggering 29 turnovers, converting them into 29 points off turnovers—an edge that underscored their defensive intensity.
• Bench Impact:
• • A key factor in the win was the bench, which contributed 46 points, providing critical support and allowing the starters to maintain energy throughout the game.
• Fastbreak & Second-Chance Points:
• • The Sound tallied 22 fastbreak points and grabbed 23 second-chance points, further widening the gap in a contest that was largely controlled by their physicality and quick transition offense.

Standout Performances

• Layla Ford led the starting unit with 18 points, contributing 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals in 28 minutes. Her aggressive play on both ends of the floor was vital in establishing early momentum.
• Ihari Oromo added 10 points while pulling down 15 rebounds (7 offensive, 8 defensive), anchoring the Sound’s inside presence.
• Danayjha Moore, coming off the bench, had a game-high 26 points in 23 minutes, providing a scoring spark when it was needed most.
• Des Bishop chipped in 13 points with his energetic play, while Tylah Langley contributed 7 points, along with 14 rebounds and 4 assists, underscoring the team’s depth in the paint.
• Sydney Mountain added 5 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 3 rebounds in her final game at home.

“Tonight, our focus on dominating the paint and capitalizing on turnovers really paid off,” said Coach Jaques. “Our third-quarter surge was the turning point of the game. Even though our perimeter shooting wasn’t our strongest suit, our rebounding and bench production more than made up for it. We’re proud of our effort and the way the team executed our game plan.” He went on to state, “It was a great way to finish off Sydney’s career here at FTC, we just kept feeding her the ball because we wanted her to have a fun night.”

With this 87-65 win, the Sound continues to build momentum as they look forward to the national tournament. The team’s commitment to improvement, especially in creating better outside shot opportunities and maintaining our inside dominance—will be key as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
