Five Towns College Women Earn Road Conference Victory Over Villa Maria College, 68-55
Buffalo, NY – February 6, 2026 – The Five Towns College women's basketball team secured a strong 68-55 conference road victory over Villa Maria College on Friday evening, improving to 9-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Five Towns used balanced scoring and defensive pressure to control the game, holding Villa Maria to 31.0% shooting and forcing 33 turnovers. The Sound collected 18 steals and capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting 71.0% as a team.
Leading the way was Layla Ford, who delivered an outstanding all-around performance with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Ford attacked the basket consistently and went 7-of-10 from the free-throw line, setting the tone offensively while facilitating for her teammates.
"Layla played with great poise tonight," said the Five Towns head coach. "She made smart decisions, got to the line, and controlled the tempo for us. That's a complete performance."
Raine Mears added 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including two three-pointers, while Natavia Ross provided a spark off the bench with 13 points on an efficient 4-of-5 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line, along with 5 steals. Geormaya Davis chipped in 10 points, going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, helping Five Towns maintain separation in the second half.
The Sound built a 32-17 halftime advantage and extended the lead to 20 points in the third quarter before Villa Maria attempted a late push in the fourth. Five Towns' composure and free-throw shooting down the stretch sealed the win.
Villa Maria was led by Alyssa Saavedra with 17 points and Lyliana Edwards with 13 points and 14 rebounds, but the visitors' defensive intensity proved too much to overcome.
With the conference victory, Five Towns continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of league play.
