Women's Volleyball Battles in 3-1 Loss to Anna Maria

Dix Hills, NY - The Five Towns College women's volleyball team battled through four tough sets Friday evening against Anna Maria College. Both teams went into tonight's match without a mark in the win column, but it was the Amcats who came out with the victory.

The Sound came out with energy in the first set totaling ten kills, three service aces, and a block by Lanasia Drain. Although the first set saw the Sound's best hitting percentage of the night, the Amcats pulled away with the 25-18 win. The Sound trailed by just one point with the score 18-17, but a 4-0 Amcat run aided by two service aces from Ashley Sheehan helped secure the set for Anna Maria.

A 3-0 Five Towns run to open up the second set got the momentum back for the Sound. The momentum carried through as an 8-0 run later in the set with Jada Roberts-Duncan serving, secured the lead at 18-8 for Five Towns.

Five Towns totaled 20 kills on the evening, led by Lanasia Drain with a game-high nine kills. Libero Emily Angelastro had 20 digs and setter Jada Roberts-Duncan had 20 assists. The Sound's 12 service aces from five players kept the team in the game. Anna Matytsina and Angelastro led the team with four aces each, Drain added two, and Roberts-Duncan and Danae Barbee added one each.

The Sound (0-3) will look for its first win of the season on Wednesday, September 18th against Fisher College at 7 PM at Five Towns College.
