Dix Hills, NY - The Five Towns College men's soccer team made history Wednesday evening with the first win of the inaugural season. The Sound defeated Webb Institute 13-1, and had seven players contribute to the scoring. As a team, the Sound outshot the Webbies 56-8, and had a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore Adrian Santos, a transfer from Borough of Manhattan Community College and the 2018 CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, put his name in the record books with the first goal scored for Five Towns College. In the 3rd minute of play, Santos controlled a through ball from Luis Mendez into the 18-yard box and finished bottom right corner.
Mendez led the team in assists with three, and added two goals himself. Mendez assisted on Freshman William Rivera's first goal of the season. Rivera, the program's first ever recruit, scored in the 71st minute. After a Webb corner kick, Robinson Munoz cleared the ball to Mendez who dribbled up the middle of the field and was able to draw out the Webb goalie at the top of the 18-yard box before feeding the ball to Rivera to find the back of the net.
Munoz was a big contributor in the effort, tallying two goals and three assists. Freshmen Adrian Wong and Bassm Ismail led the team in scoring, each contributing a hat-trick; Wong also assisted on one of Ismail's goals. Pierre Shashkin also added a goal of his own.
Freshman goalie Mouhamed Diop Dia, who earned last week's HVIAC Rookie of the Week for his shutout draw against the defending HVIAC champion, had 54 shutout minutes with two saves. The Five Towns defense held Webb Institute to just five shots on goal.
Five Towns College (1-0-1) will face Pratt Institute (0-2-1) at home on Saturday, September 14th at 12:00 PM.
