Dix Hills, NY - Five players scored in the men's soccer non-conference victory over the Villa Maria Vikings Saturday afternoon, with two players scoring a hat trick. Five Towns is now 5-2-1 on the season, 1-2-1 in the HVIAC. The top four teams in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will travel up to Albany for the conference championship on October 26-27. The Sound still has two more conference games on the schedule. The team will travel to Vaughn (1-1 HVIAC) on October 17th, and will play Berkeley (2-0 HVIAC) at home on October 23rd. Mendez opened up the scoring in the 8th minute with an unassisted goal. After collecting a loose ball at the defensive line, Mendez fired a shot from 20 yards out that tipped off the goalie's hands to find the back of the net. Santos followed up less than a minute later with his lone goal of the game. After a give-and-go from defender Junior Del Rosario, Santos tapped the ball and leaped over the sliding goalkeeper before putting it past him.
Molina scored his third goal of the season in the 13th minute. After a mistouch by a defender, he volleyed the bouncing ball at the 18-yard box to finish lower left. Molina finished the game with one goal and two assists through 90 minutes of play.
Five Towns would score once more before the break. Rivera scored his first goal of the game off an assist from Molina. Molina took a corner kick from the left side that Rivera collected in the box and finished left-footed past the keeper to go up 4-0 at the half.
Wong scored his hat trick within six minutes of play. He scored his first goal of the game in the 60:54 mark after Rivera drew a foul inside the box to give Five Towns a penalty kick. His second goal of the game in the 63rd minute when Mendez gave Molina a short pass of a corner kick for the cross into the box, that Wong volleyed just inside the left post. Wong would complete the hat trick at 66:05. Munoz chipped the ball over the defense that Wong controlled inside the box to put past the keeper.
Rivera scored his second goal of the game, and 10th of the season, off an assist from Wong. Mendez would finish out the scoring in the 90th minute with a shot over the goalkeeper's head from 40 yards out.
Next up for the men, the team will travel to New Hampshire for a non-conference game against NHTI on Tuesday, October 8th. NHTI is 7-2-1 on the season, and was ranked #8 in the USCAA Week 2 Coaches Poll (Five Towns: #9), and #9 in the week 2 Power Rankings (Five Towns: T-12).
