Dix Hills, NY - The Five Towns College men's soccer team traveled to Concord, New Hampshire for a Tuesday afternoon game against New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI). In last week's USCAA Coaches Poll (Week 2), NHTI was ranked #8, just above #9 Five Towns College. In the Week 3 Power Rankings released Monday, October 7th, NHTI came in at #7 (Five Towns #15).
The Sound came out with a 3-1 win over the Lynx; Five Towns held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks and outshot NHTI 49-19.
Adrian Santos led the scoring for Five Towns with two goals (six shots on goal). Adrian Wong added a goal of his own and remains atop the Sound leaderboard (14 goals scored). This week's HVIAC Rookie of the Week Anthony Molina and last week's HVIAC Rookie of the Week William Rivera each tallied an assist in the team's effort.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first quarter of the game until Wong opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Rivera in the 25th minute. NHTI tied the score in the 33rd minute with the Lynx's only goal of the game. Assisted by Molina, Santos answered back just 20 seconds later to score the would-be game winning goal and regain the lead for the Sound. The second half saw multiple shots traded between both sides, until Santos gave Five Towns an insurance goal late in the 90th minute.
NHTI's Teigan Friedrich scored the lone goal for the Lynx. Five Towns goalkeeper Mouhamed Diop Dia faced the most pressure he has this season, and came up with an impressive 12 saves through 90 minutes to keep the Sound in the game. Diop Dia continues to lead the HVIAC and USCAA with a goals-against average of 0.51.
